Many Religions and Denominations!
God said that there would be only 4 Universal Kingdoms. Dan 2:32, 38-40; 7:2-8, 17, 23; 8:20-23. Historically this has proven true. Yet there still existed several hundred nationalities.
God divided the nations at Babel – Genesis 11:1-9
Matt 25:32 “And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:”
God provided for only one true religion to worship the one true God. Deut 26:15-19; 28:1;
Deut 7:1-7 “When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou; 2And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor show mercy unto them: 3Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son. 4For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly. 5But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire. 6For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. 7The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:”
Ever since Israel first existed as a nation, God intended for all nations to be brought into the one true religion – that faith given to the Jewish nation.
John 4:22 “Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.”
— yet there were many pagan religions, and numerous flavours of each religion. Ex 12:12; Deu 6:14; Josh 24:15;
2 Kin 17:29-33 “Howbeit every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities wherein they dwelt. And the men of Babylon made Succothbenoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima, And the Avites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burnt their children in fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim. So they feared the LORD, and made unto themselves of the lowest of them priests of the high places, which sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places. They feared the LORD, and served their own gods, after the manner of the nations whom they carried away from thence.”
Judg 10:6 “And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim, and Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Zidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines, and forsook the LORD, and served not him.”
Acts 17: 22-27 “Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars’ hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious. For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:”
“While God’s agents of mercy work through consecrated human beings, Satan sets his agencies in operation, laying under tribute all who will submit to his control. There will be lords many and gods many. The cry will be heard, “Lo, here is Christ,” and, “Lo, there is Christ.” The deep plotting of Satan will reveal itself everywhere for the purpose of diverting the attention of men and women from present duty. There will be signs and wonders. But the eye of faith will discern in all these manifestations harbingers of the grand and awful future, and the triumphs that await the people of God.” 9T 47
“The days are fast approaching when there will be great perplexity and confusion. Satan, clothed in angel robes, will deceive, if possible, the very elect. There will be gods many and lords many. Every wind of doctrine will be blowing.” RH, January 11, 1887
Mat 23:38 “Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.”
Luke 13:35 “Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.”
Jesus himself foretold of a successive period depicted by the 7 churches of Revelation 1:19-20; 2:1, 8, 12 (14-15), 18; 3:1, 7, 14.
Apostolic church Church in the wilderness Remnant of Laodicea
Rev 12:17 “And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.”
Many Confusing Counterfeits, One Great Truth
Despite the abounding numbers of religions and counterfeit beliefs, there is only one great truth and one faithful remnant who are appointed to preserve, to live and to carry that truth to a sin-infected world.
One God — Deu 6:4 “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:”
Mark 12:29-30 “And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.”
1 Cor 8:5-6 “For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.”
One Fold or Religion — John 10:16 “And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.”
Eph 4:4-6 “There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.”
One God, One Saviour, One Faith, One Baptism, One body — NOT many.
God has a people of prophecy, evidenced by history.
Babylon – Mother of all Apostates
Rev 14:7-10 “Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication. And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, …:”
Babylon’s “wine” symbolises false doctrines and superstitions which she advocates, by means of which she intoxicates and seduces the inhabitants of the earth. Eg:
Salvation by self-dependence, as opposed to salvation by God-dependence.
The authority of the Church exalted above the authority of the Bible.
The substitution of Sunday for the original Bible Sabbath.
The natural immortality of the soul.
Spiritism – so-called communication with the dead.
The union of religion with political power.
The employment of political means to serve religious ends.
Religious laws, intolerance and persecution.
These, as well as numerous other unscriptural errors, are as old as Babel—as old as Cain. They are threads from the fabric of every false religious system that has every been.
Yet all the false religions connected with Babylon will fall, and will ultimately be destroyed. Rev 17:1-7.
Obviously, the “fall” of spiritual Babylon takes in every departure from “the faith once delivered unto the saints” having occurred in Christian history. Some of which can be traced from a study of the prophecy of the Seven Seals. However, in the setting of the last days, this “fall” refers to the condition of total apostasy described in Rev 18:2, when the professed Church of God surrenders completely to Satanic control, and becomes “the habitation of devils; the hold of every foul spirit; and the cage of every unclean and hateful bird”.
Daughters of Babylon — **Daniel & Revelation pp 643-644
Applies to those religious organisations—of whatever name—which inherit the character and perpetuate the spirit of their “Mother”. This applies also to those individuals who weakly tolerate or passively surrender to the doctrines and aims of modern Babylon.
This is a time for courageous heart-searching. As we consider the false doctrines listed above, we should ask: “Have we been unwittingly drinking the ‘wine’ of modern Babylon?”
Would Jesus tolerate or compromise with these unscriptural deceptions? He would again protest: “Take these things hence, and make not My Father’s house an house of merchandise.” John 2:16
Rev 2:9 “I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.”
Rev 3:9 “Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.”
TM 16 “Satan has a large confederacy, his church. Christ calls them the synagogue of Satan because the members are the children of sin. The members of Satan’s church have been constantly working to cast off the divine law, and confuse the distinction between good and evil. Satan is working with great power in and through the children of disobedience to exalt treason and apostasy as truth and loyalty. And at this time the power of his satanic inspiration is moving the living agencies to carry out the great rebellion against God that commenced in heaven.”
Time of the End – Three Great Religions
As the end draws closer, it is prophesied the there will be three great counterfeit religions under the control of one spirit.
1 Cor 8:5 “For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
The deception is narrowed down to three – **Rev 16:12-16
Daniel & Revelation p 647 “The great city Babylon is composed of three divisions. So the great religions of the world may be arranged under three heads. The first, oldest, and most widespread is paganism, separately symbolized under the form of a dragon. The second is the great papal apostasy, symbolized by the beast. The third is the daughters, or descendants from that church, symbolized by the two-horned beast, though that does not embrace them all. War, oppression, conformity to the world, religious formalism, the worship of mammon, pursuit of pleasure, and the maintenance of very many errors of the Roman Catholic Church, identify with sad and faithful accuracy the great body of the Protestant churches as an important constituent part of this great Babylon.”
D&R p700 “The sources from which these spirits issue, denote that they will work among three great religious divisions of mankind, represented by the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet, or paganism, Roman Catholicism, and apostate Protestantism.”
GC 561-562 “Satan has long been preparing for his final effort to deceive the world. The foundation of his work was laid by the assurance given to Eve in Eden: “Ye shall not surely die.” “In the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” Genesis 3:4, 5. Little by little he has prepared the way for his masterpiece of deception in the development of spiritualism. He has not yet reached the full accomplishment of his designs; but it will be reached in the last remnant of time. Says the prophet: “I saw three unclean spirits like frogs; . . . they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.” Revelation 16:13, 14. Except those who are kept by the power of God, through faith in His word, the whole world will be swept into the ranks of this delusion. The people are fast being lulled to a fatal security, to be awakened only by the outpouring of the wrath of God.”
2 Cor 6:14-18 “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.”
“To come out” means to sever all connection with every unscriptural doctrine and practice. This separation is to be as complete and final as that of the immigrant who renounces his former citizenship; the bride who forsakes all rivals for her legal husband; a complete surrender of the life to heaven’s government.
Rev 18:2-5, 8, 23-24 “”
Rev 19:1-2, 6-9 “”
Col 2:20-23 “Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, (Touch not; taste not; handle not; Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men? Which things have indeed a show of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.”
